Daily Devotional: Psalms 27:11-14

Ps 27:11-14

Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Eph 3:14-17, 20-21

For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,… Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Take courage, be strong, and wait on the Lord. If we are going to be strong, why should we wait on the Lord? If he is giving us strength, why not just get the job done? To wait on the Lord is one of the most difficult things we are told to do. To wait means that we are giving up control (as if we really had control of anything) and letting God take over in our hearts and in our lives.

Look around you today and look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. He has given us so many wonderful things to enjoy. The beautiful sunrise, the clouds or the clear sky, the sunset in the evening and the stars at night, are just samplings of his goodness. In this time of year we see flowers blooming, we see fields of green grass and trees becoming full of leaves. See his goodness.

Even better than all of this, when we wait on him by learning his word and how it applies to our lives, and then living for him, we find peace in our hearts. In this, his Spirit bears record with our spirit that we are the children of God. By allowing his Spirit to work in us, we begin to bear his fruit as we become more like Jesus.

It is with the strength provided by the Spirit that we learn self-control which in turn allows us to become more obedient to his word. This opens the door of our hearts to know how to love more and be filled with his joy, even in trials.

O Lord God, keep me from ever grieving your Spirit, or even worse, quenching him in my life. Fill me with your Spirit so I will have strength to overcome each trial I face, to be filled with your love, and to find joy and peace, to have patience, to practice kindness in every situation, and then to be filled with goodness and faithfulness, with humility and self-control. Thank you for revealing your will for me. Increase my faith and give me wisdom. Thank you for the material things you have put into my life. I pray in the name of Jesus.
