Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:16-22

Ps 25:16-22

Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Consider my affliction and my trouble and forgive all my sins. Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me. Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

James 5:15-16

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

It doesn’t matter if our problems are physical or spiritual, the same God cares and is able to help us. Who on earth knows the power of prayer? It is only limited by our faith and the will of God. Elijah prayed that God would keep it from raining and for three years, not a drop of rain fell on Israel. When he prayed for rain, it came a storm! God is able to take care of your problems and mine!

But our faith, our prayers, our waiting on God are moment events. We must renew our faith on a daily basis and then on an hourly basis and then on a minute-by-minute basis. This is not because our faith is weak but because we have to be reminded because the devil is going to always be trying to insert doubt in our minds. God wants what I best for us, and that is going to be with him in glory!

Just as David prayed for God to redeem Israel out of her troubles, it is fitting for us to pray for God to deliver our nation from her troubles as well. The same God who put David in as King and built his world empire, is the same God who controls the leaders of all nations today and gives them their respective domains.

Even more importantly, we need to be praying for God’s kingdom on earth. We need to be praying for unity and peace among his people. We need to be praying that more of the lost can be found and that more of the found will remain true to him. Pray for our brothers and sisters who face persecution for their faith in Jesus.

O Lord God, creator and giver of life, I come to you and humbly ask you to help me be more like Jesus, every day of my life. Help me be careful what I say and how I say it. Keep my heart set on the things above, where Christ is seated at your right hand. Create in me a pure heart and a clean spirit. I want you to use me to help others, so open my eyes to see each opportunity you place before me. Open my heart to things that are out of my comfort zone, when it is your will. Be with those who are suffering and give them peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
