Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:13-18
Ps 10:13-18
Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”? But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none. The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land. O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
2 Cor 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
We are all horrified by events that are on the news when a large number of people are killed. Planes crash, storms come, drought and floods happen, there are mass shootings, buildings explode, and the list goes on. These are horrific and they should cause chills down our spines. But the reality is that in all of these, not a single person died that was not already going to die. The timing changed or the way that they left this life is a surprise, but every one of them was going to die.
You and I will die one day (unless the Lord returns first – and then we will leave this life) and we will all stand before God in judgment. There is an old hymn that says there is a “great day coming” and then there is a “glad day coming”, and finally, there is a “sad day coming”. These are all the same day but for different people there will be different outcomes, depending on how we have lived in this life. The hymn goes and to ask: “Are you ready for the judgment day?”
Paul warns that we are not to be deceived because God is not mocked, and we all will reap what we sow. If we sow to the Spirit, we will reap eternal life but if we sow to the flesh, we will reap eternal destruction. Too many think that God does not see them or that their sins will never be exposed. We must all give an account to the one who made us and to the one who died for us. Are you ready?
O Lord God, thank you for the salvation that is in Jesus Christ and the assurance that my sins are forgiven. Because you have saved me by your grace and by the blood of Jesus, empower me to do good works and to seek to be like Jesus in all I do and all I say. Help me look for opportunities to do good and to help others and then to use each of them as they come into my life. Fill me with your Spirit so that I will learn better how to be loving, compassionate, kind and tender-hearted to everyone around me. Be with all on my prayer list. I pray in Jesus’ name.
