Daily Devotional: Proverbs 28:6-10

Prov 28:6-10

6 Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways. 7 The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. 8 Whoever multiplies his wealth by interest and profit gathers it for him who is generous to the poor. 9 If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. 10 Whoever misleads the upright into an evil way will fall into his own pit, but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance.

Eph 2:13-16

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

Focus on what matters. Find peace of mind, joy, and a true meaning in life. We all want to be at peace with ourselves and we can only have that when we are at peace with God. We only have peace with God by being in Jesus Christ. It is when we are at peace with God and with self that peace with others becomes possible. When we are constantly angry or bitter, or looking for ways to be offended, we are miserable, and we make everyone around us equally miserable.

Life is not about this world. Money and material things will all decay or be destroyed. Honors and high positions will be forgotten. What matters is eternal, and it will never be lost or decay or fade away. All that really matters is how we live our lives and how much we use what we have to lead others to Jesus.

I am proud to be an American. Even with all the corruption in our land and even with all the immorality that is rampant, we live in a land that offers opportunities and freedoms that are not even imagined by much of the world. But what is far more important than being an American, is being a citizen of the eternal Kingdom of Jesus. Our king is our true role model, and he can always be trusted.

O Lord God, thank you for your love and your grace. While your grace, your mercy, your compassion, and your love abound in Jesus and what he has done for me on the cross, I see all of these traits shown to me in many ways every day. I thank you and I praise you for being the only true God. Fill me with your Spirit so I will show these same traits to others around me, and they will see Jesus in me. I need your wisdom every day. Help me listen more and listen better. Give your peace to those who are hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and my King.
