Daily Devotional: Proverbs 1:24-33

Prov 1:24-33

Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.

Gal 6:7

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

We live in a society and culture that does not understand that every action we take has consequences. It may be almost immeasurable, or it may be life changing, but every action has consequences. This is partly because so many people today feel that they are entitled to whatever they want. This feeling comes because of thinking they do not have to answer for the choices they make.

We have to make many choices every day of our lives. The most important choice is to determine if we will serve God or Satan. We should recognize God as God, fear and respect him as God, thank him as God who gives us all things and then serve him as God because we owe him our all. If we do not do this, he will give up on us and let us do whatever we want to do and live as we please. The caveat is that whatever we sow, we will reap. Remember, the wages of sin is death.

God still loves everyone, but he knows how to practice what some call “tough love”. He will let us make the choice to be lost. He doesn’t want anyone to go to hell because it was not made for people, it was made for the devil and his angels, but it is a reality for those who refuse to choose to live for him.

O Lord God, thank you for loving me. Give me wisdom to make the right choices all day, every day of my life. When I make a bad choice, help me be willing to listen to you and to your word, and then correct my wrong. When I am unkind to others, help me be willing to apologize and accept responsibility for what I have done. Use me and what you have given to me to help others, as I have opportunities to do so. Forgive me when I sin. I pray in the name of Jesus my Redeemer.
