Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:7-14

Ps 148:7-14

Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and maidens, old men and children. Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the Lord.

Rom 1:18-20

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

I realize that I have been taught all of my life that there is a God who made all things and that he is all powerful, all wise, and ever present, but it seems totally unreasonable for someone to deny his existence. When I look at his creation and even more, when I study science in any form, logic requires a divine intelligence that is powerful to create all things so that the universe works in harmony.

It is interesting to me that in science, in religion, and in politics so many of the problems we have are manufactured by us as people, and usually because we think we are smart enough to change the way God wants us to live. His creation works in harmony, and he wants us to live in harmony with him, with each other and with the world around us. Peace is of utmost importance to God.

The most important peace is the inner peace we can have in Jesus because we know that he lives in us, and we are in him. It doesn’t mean that we are perfect or that we have everything all figured out with all the right answers. It means we are forgiven, and we live in total trust that he is in control, and he will take care of us and of this world where we are living. With this, we can rejoice in the Lord always!

O Lord God, creator and sustainer, giver of life and all that is good, I thank you for revealing yourself to me in your Word, but also in your creation. Give me a pure heart and a spirit that is steadfast in following your will. Help me control my lips and say only those things that will build up and honor you. Give me patience, fill me with kindness and a gentle spirit. As I accept your love into my heart, let it overflow so that others will see Jesus living in me. I pray in his name.
