Daily Devotional: Psalms 146:5-10

Ps 146:5-10

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them — the Lord, who remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.

Rom 6:17-18

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Rom 8:8-9

Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the flesh but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Are you saved from sin? If you die today, will you go to be with the Lord or will you be separated from him forever? Paul says that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because the law that requires death for sin has been done away with in Christ. This does not mean that we never sin. It means that as long as we are set on living for Christ, his blood continues to cleanse us from sin.

When we are buried with Christ in baptism, and then raised as a new person, all of our sins are forgiven. Forgiven as though we had never done them in the first place. By that same act of obedient faith, we are given the Spirit of God to live in us. His sanctifying work in our hearts molds us more and more into the likeness of Jesus. The result of his living in us is called his fruit in us.

He gives us peace that we cannot comprehend. He infuses our hearts with joy. He gives us wisdom to know how to live for God. As we study the Word of God, he provides the understanding for us. He is the source of our strength. Praise God!

O Lord my God, I praise you for all you have done for me. It is such a wonderful thought to know that you have provided a way of salvation that anyone can accept in Jesus Christ. Your love is beyond measure, and I thank you that it has been extended to me. Help me show your free love to all with whom I come in contact, so they will see Jesus living in me. Give me a positive attitude. Fill me with your joy and peace. Make me an encourager to others. Give your strength and your peace to those who serve you in difficult places. In Jesus’ name.
