Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:9-16

Ps 119:9-16             Beth

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

2 Peter 1:3-4

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Living for God by following his word is not a chore when we love him. Obedience is not a dirty word but is a way of life for his children because our desire is to please him. It is our goal to be just like Jesus, imitating the Father. The only way we can know what pleases him is to study his word. The only way we can imitate Jesus, is when we learn from his word how he lived and what he did.

Instead of being a chore, living for Jesus is the only lifestyle that will bring us true joy. While the world pursues happiness, peace of mind, and fulfillment of being, they never find it on their own, but in Jesus we have all of this given to us. We find reason, and not just “a” reason but “the” reason for our existence. As we live for him, we know that our sins are forgiven, and we know that we are saved from eternal destruction with a promise of eternal life.

We can live without fear of the world powers, or the political corruption that is so prevalent, or some pending financial doom, or what is happening to the earth around us. We live in peace because we know that God is in control and all things are sustained by the word of his power and by Jesus his Son! We may pollute the earth to some degree, but we cannot destroy it. Only God can do that.

Heavenly Father, what a joy and peace of mind to know that Jesus is in control over heaven and earth. As your child I know that you will take care of me and provide all I need to exist here, and even greater, you will provide me with eternal life when I leave this earth. Be with your people who are struggling physically and those who are hurting emotionally, as well as those who are facing trials in their faith. Use me to help each of these when I have the opportunity to do so. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to be. I pray in Jesus’ name.
