Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:6-12

Psalms 106:6-12

We have sinned, even as our fathers did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known. He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert. He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy, he redeemed them. The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.

Romans 5:6-8

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Everything in life looked hopeless, but God intervened. The Red Sea ahead and the army of Pharaoh coming from behind, but God parted the waters. Lost in sin with no hope, but God sent Jesus to die in our place. The doctor said it may be a year or less, but God sent his healing and several years later we still praise him. Death came to one we love, and it seemed that life had no purpose, but God has opened new doors and life has meaning again. We lost our job, divorce came, but God…!

Faith is seeing the unseen. Faith is knowing that God will do the right thing for us, at the right time (his right time, not ours), and in the right way – even when it does not look possible, or the answer seems to us to be all wrong. Faith is not blind belief but is based on who God is, what God can do, and the assurance that he loves us and cares for us. We know all of these to be true, so we joyfully put our trust in him! He clothes the weeds with flowers, and he gives peace to us.

So, when you have a bad day (and we all have them at times), be it pain, sorrow, hurt, stress, anxiety, depression, or just feeling blah, trust in God. But remember that he has not promised to take it away, he has promised to get you through. Not only to get your through, but to make you a better person for having been there.

O Lord God, I praise you and I thank you! As I look around in my life and I see all the times you have carried me through the things I have faced, my heart overflows with joy. There have been days when life seemed hopeless and the problems were piled higher than I could climb, yet here I am today and blessed beyond anything I ever dreamed possible. Help me use everything that I have ever faced, and will face, to your glory and to help others in their struggles. Forgive me when my faith is weak, and I try to fix it all alone. I ask it in the name of Jesus.
