Daily Devotional: Psalms 73:15-20

Ps 73:15-20

If I had said, "I will speak thus," I would have betrayed your children. When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin. How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors! As a dream when one awakes, so when you arise, O Lord, you will despise them as fantasies.

Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope — the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

The preacher, in his book on life, said that life is vanity and is like chasing the wind until he put God into the equation. Without the knowledge of God and without the proper respect for him as God, life has no meaning. It is God who gives us reason to live and purpose to exist. This is true because God is love, he is giving, he is forgiving and because he wants us to come to him in Christ and be like him.

When we accept his love for us in Jesus and when we reciprocate his love, we find meaning and purpose. The more we love him, the more we have reason to live. It is in this love that we also love others around us and seek to lead them to Jesus. In this, they find purpose in their lives as well. The closer we come to Jesus the more he will draw near to us to lead us, strengthen us, and comfort us in our trials.

The good news is that everyone is invited to come to Jesus and find salvation and to have the peace that surpasses our comprehension. The bad news is that most people reject it because Satan has deceived them into thinking that Jesus takes away our joy and destroys our peace. They waste their lives looking for meaning, which they never find. This is why we have so much hate, so many murders, and suicide runs rampant. Life is about God, Jesus, and eternal life with them.

O Lord God, what a blessing to be your child. I look at your holiness and at your perfection, and then I look at myself and see how much I fall short of your glory and realize just how much I need your grace and your forgiveness. Thank you for Jesus coming to earth to be my Savior and now my risen Lord. Help me live for you and pattern my life after your will in all things. Thank you that my wife (and others) continues to heal from her cancer, her surgeries, and her treatments. Give your peace to all who are struggling in life. I pray in the name of Jesus.
