Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:16-20

Ps 66:16-20

Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

Matt 10:32-33

"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

Let me tell you what God has done for me. When I have been down, he has lifted me up. When I felt that everything was about me, he brought me down. When there was no way to go, and the world seemed to have crashed in on me, my burden was lifted, the sky became blue and joy filled my heart. In life, in death, in sickness and in health, in the good times and the bad, he has been by my side and has held my hand to provide my needs and to take away my pride.

God knows what you need before you ask. In fact, he knows what we need, even before we know it ourselves. There is nothing that any of us will ever need that is not in his storehouse, ready to be given. He supplies strength to us when we feel that we are too weak to put one foot ahead of the other. He can bring joy in the midst of the worst storms in life. When we seek him first, he will always help us.

When Jesus healed a blind man, he put mud on his eyes and then told the man to go wash it off. Did Jesus need the mud to heal him? Of course not! Does he need a doctor or medication, or surgery or treatments or anything else to heal today? No more than he needed the mud, but he has given us these things and we need to use what he has given. But never forget that God is the source of all blessings.

Give thanks in everything. Worry about nothing. Trust God in every situation. Turn every care over to Jesus our High Priest. But never forget to give thanks for the things he gives – big or small – give thanks for it all. Even when God says “no” to our requests, give thanks because he knows what is best for us at the time.

O Lord, I cannot count the many blessings you have showered on me and on my family over the years. You have provided our needs, physical, mental, social, and most of all you have provided our spiritual needs. You have filled our lives with good things, but even more, with good people. Help me be more devoted to you and to your will in my life. Use me to serve and to help others and never be selfish with what you have given to me. Forgive me when I fail. Increase my faith. Be with the leaders of our nation, so I can live in peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
