Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:13-15

Ps 66:13-15

I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you--vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble. I will sacrifice fat animals to you, and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats. Selah

Gal 1:3-5

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

My wife and I have been through some pretty rough things in our lives. More than once, we both have been close to the point of death with various illnesses. She (more than I) seems to have a special ability to contract things that are rare or that even go against the norms of medical science. We have had some financial reverses, and in our fifty-five years of marriage, we have had some differences between us that have created some pretty rough spots in our lives.

But God is good! Jesus is our constant companion, our friend, our guide, and most of all, he is the Great Physician! The bad times have passed and have turned into times of joy and celebration. We have always been there for each other and given pep talks (and sometimes sermons) as we reminded the other one of the things God has said and promised to us. How can we (or anyone else) not praise the God of heaven for all the good things he does for us? We worship and praise Jesus as our Redeemer, our Savior, and as our Lord. We depend on the Spirit within us.

But we are not alone. Many who read this will identify with this because you have been through similar things and times in your lives. We need to not be selfish and keep the goodness of God and the joy of Jesus all to ourselves. We can show our gratitude to him by our constant worship to him and our faithfulness in our lives.

We also bring honor to him as we share this good news with those who do not know him as God or Jesus as their Lord. We can share his Light with the dark world in which we live. We do live in an evil age and they need the love of God, his peace that surpasses comprehension, his forgiveness found in Jesus, and his ever-abiding presence in their lives. Share the life-changing news of Jesus today.

Thank you, O Lord, for the many times you have lifted me up from the mud, pulled me from the pits, and snatched me from the fires of life. O God, you have given me such wonderful opportunities in life to be able to know so many good people, to have such a wonderful family, and most of all, to be a part of your family of fellow believers. Thank you for forgiving me when I have failed to be what you want me to be. Help me use all you have done for me in a way that will encourage and help others in their struggles. I humbly pray to you in the name of Jesus.
