Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:5-7

Ps 66:5-7

Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot--come, let us rejoice in him. He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations--let not the rebellious rise up against him. Selah

1 Peter 2:1-3

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Sit down and try to write down on paper every good thing God has done for you in your lifetime. Since we probably can’t do that, try just recounting all of your blessings in the last month, or even the last week. Be sure to include the good things that come to you because of when and where you live, and then add the mental abilities that have allowed you to reach this point in your life. Include the opportunities to have your friends, the fellow-Christians, your family, as well as your education and your job. Don’t forget the spiritual and physical blessings.

The Lord is good and we have tasted his goodness and his kindness. On our worst day, we can recount a few of the things he has done for us and find renewed desire and strength to be faithful to him. This also motivates us to share his love, his kindness, his goodness, and his patience, with others that cross our paths. We often find the love of others as one of our greatest blessings from God.

We cannot feed all of the hungry people in the world and we cannot cure poverty in all the places it prevails. We will not be able to provide homes for all of those who are homeless. But we can help someone whose path we cross today. It may be money, it could be food, or maybe just a kind word can go a long way for one who is down and out and feeling all alone. Regift one of your gifts from God.

The power of a card, the joy of a text message, the thrill of a phone call from a friend, or just an acquaintance should never be underestimated. When facing trials, every word of encouragement is important and vital. We have the Psalms from the Lord as his card, his text, his phone call because he cares about us.

O Lord God, just give a heart of compassion for others. Use me to lift up someone who is down, give peace to one who is troubled, or to just listen to that person that needs to be heard without judgment or advice. Help me Lord to remember that I do not have all the answers for my own life, so I surely don’t know how to fix all the problems of others. Thank you, God, for all you have given to me and done for me and my family. While I can see the obvious, there is no way for me to know all you have done and are doing for me. Thank you in the name of Jesus.
