Daily Devotional: Psalms 64:1-10

Ps 64:1-10

Hear me, O God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy. Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from that noisy crowd of evildoers. They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their words like deadly arrows. They shoot from ambush at the innocent man; they shoot at him suddenly, without fear. They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, "Who will see them?" They plot injustice and say, "We have devised a perfect plan!" Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning.

But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down.  He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him!

Heb 4:13

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

God sees and God knows. He always knows what we are doing, saying, and even thinking in our hearts. One of the really neat miracles recorded for us is when the king of Syria was going to attack Israel and God revealed it to the prophet who told the king. The attack was thwarted. After this happened multiple times, the king of Syria began to suspect a spy in his midst and questioned his people. One of them told the king that the God of Israel knows what you say in your bedroom, and he reveals it to the king of Israel. God knows our plans and words also.

Jesus said since this is true, not even a cup of cold water given in his name is going to be missed or forgotten by the Father. Every time we suffer, God knows. When we overcome a temptation, he sees it. When we help someone with just a kind word, it is noticed by God. Jesus said for us to pray, to give assistance to those in need, and even to fast, but for us to do these things in secret, and then our Father who sees in secret will reward us openly. Being a Christian means that we are humble, loving, kind, caring, and helpful, and we do it just to please our Father in heaven.

O God, help me live for you in every thought and in every way. So many people with whom I daily come in contact are in need, and I really want to help them. Some have physical needs, some are faced with emotional stress, and some are weighed down with sin or are struggling spiritually. Help me see each opportunity to help and to respond with the help they need. Use me to serve you in Africa, in China, in Central or South America, and in my own neighborhood, or anywhere else in the world where a need arises. I come to you in the name of Jesus.
