Daily Devotional: Psalms 63:1-5

Ps 63:1-5

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

Eph 5:16-20

Therefore, do not be foolish but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There have been many who sought to see God, and for many different reasons. Job wanted to question God and find reasons why things were happening to him as they were. Moses wanted to see God because he had been faithful and felt he was a close friend with God. Elijah was told he would see God because of his great depression. But even these only saw a glimpse of his presence and each one very suddenly realized they had no business being in the presence of GOD.

Yet we are told to come before him with boldness. Let that sink in. That does not mean we approach him flippantly or with disrespect, and certainly not as his equal. We come before him with reverence and in awe because he is GOD! We spoke of his greatness, his majesty, and his power before. It is only in Christ that we can enter into his court and come to his throne. Jesus makes it happen.

Just as one would never approach a dignitary without a gift of appreciation, we come before God on his throne with thanksgiving. We give him a pure heart of true devotion. We give him lips of praise. We offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, which is our spiritual worship. But our worship includes our daily lives, who and what we are from the inside out, and not just our Sunday rituals. The greatest gift we can give to God is to trust and obey him to the best of our understanding.

Hallelujah! What a Savior is Jesus my Lord! To you O Father, I offer praise as the only Great God and the giver of life. I know that I do not deserve to be your child or to ever come in your presence, so I thank you for the sacrifice of Jesus that makes it possible for me to talk with you. Thank you for listening to me. I give you thanks for being patient with me in my weakness and being merciful to me and forgiving me. Thank you for my physical family and also for my spiritual family, and for the love they show me. I humbly come to you in the name of Jesus.
