Daily Devotional: Psalms 32:6-11

Ps 32:6-11

Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him. Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Rom 8:26-28

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Life can be hard. People can be cruel. Things happen that are unfair. Helpless people are abused every day. Children are sold and abandoned. In many places, there are children and adults alike that are starving. But all of this is just a lot of facts and numbers to most of us because we live in a comfortable house and we have good health and we enjoy an abundance of material things. When we do take it to heart, we know that we cannot fix all of these problems on our own, so we simply do nothing about any of them. Is this right? What should we do?

We are to do good to all people, as we have opportunity. The proverb says we are not to tell our neighbor to come back tomorrow when we have it available to help them today. When we give a cup of cold water in the name of Jesus, it will not go unnoticed by our Father in heaven. When we encourage one person who is trying to overcome an addiction or other sin, we have made a change. A phone call can give a lonely person the will to live. A simple smile can change the night to day.

O Lord God, help me see the opportunities you give me to serve and give me the willingness to do what I can do. Keep me from being selfish and cold hearted. I thank you for all you have given me in life. Give strength to those who are having a difficult time. Give your peace to those who are troubled. Give healing that only you can give to those who are sick and those taking treatments. Mold me into your likeness, more and more each day so that everything I do and all I say will bring honor to you. Forgive me when I fail. I pray in the name of Jesus.
