Daily Devotional: Psalms 29:1-6

Ps 29:1-6

Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters, the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.

Rev 5:5-6a, 9-10

Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals." Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

The lion is announced but the lamb that has been slain appears. What a stark contrast, a lion vs. a lamb! This is because we serve the God who can make the weak strong and at the same time, he can destroy the strongest (from our perspective) with only a word. The soldiers had Jesus nailed to the cross and when he died, he was buried in a tomb. The large rock was rolled over the entrance and sealed and soldiers guarded it to make sure.

But an angel rolled away the stone. Jesus came out of the grave, alive! He later went back to the Father, where he lives forever, and reigns until the time he will give it back to God. We serve a risen Savior, not a dead memory.

We have a living Lord, and he is worthy to open the seals and to reveal the plan of God for us. His plan is for the faithful to have a home in that glorious city, where there is no night, there is no sickness or death, there is no sorrow. But there is the never-ending day, with joy and bliss as we honor and worship our God.

Lord God, I am so thankful that you are all-powerful and that you can make things happen in my life as you see they need to be. I know that you can heal disease and you can change the hearts of people. This is your earth and you control all things around us. Thank you for the beauty of the seasons, for the sunsets that you paint in the sky, and for the stars that shine at night. Help me not get so caught up in the things of this world that I fail to see your beauty and I fail to enjoy the innocence of the young children. I humbly pray in Jesus name.
