Daily Devotional: Psalms 28:1-9

Ps 28:1-9

To you I call, O LORD my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts. Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back upon them what they deserve. Since they show no regard for the works of the LORD and what his hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again. Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

No matter what happens to us, we need to trust the Lord. We have a Savior who is also our friend, and he will walk with us and will talk with us and hold our hand in times of stress. He is always near to us and wants only what is best for us.

But I have been there for a friend in times of need and felt totally helpless because I could not change the situation or fix the problem. Not only can our friend Jesus change things and fix things, but he also knows what we need fixed, when it needs to be changed, and how to do it, so that he does not make things worse for us instead of better. We just need to trust him with all our heart.

Faith is not walking by sight. Faith is seeing the unseen. Faith is trusting the Lord when we cannot see any possible way out of the situation. Faith is letting God have his way and doing it in his own time. Faith is submitting to his will in the way we live. Faith is putting the spiritual ahead of the physical. Faith is realizing (and really believing) that we are better off when we leave this world to live with Jesus in eternity. Faith is praying about everything, worrying and about nothing.

Heavenly Father, increase my faith. Open my eyes to see the unseen. Help me know the peace that is so wonderful that it cannot be explained. Fill me with your love so much that it overflows to all those around me. Give me wisdom to do your will and strength to carry it out, but faith to trust you for the results. Lord, please give your healing to those who are facing surgery and who are taking treatments and give them faith to trust you. Use me to help them. In Jesus name.
