Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:1-7

Ps 25:1-7

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.

Heb 9:13-14

The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

We all know someone that is a really good person but is remembered for one bad thing they did in life. We also know someone who is not a very good person but is often remembered for a good deed they performed. One act does not make a person good or bad. We all have made some poor choices and we all have done or said things that we wish we could undo. We all have sinned against God.

How do we want to be remembered by those who have known us? Will they think of some good thing we have done or something that was bad? By some, those who really know us, we will be remembered for our entire lifestyle and not some random deed. But what really matters is how will God remember us?

With God, there are two choices. We are either in Christ and we have all of our past sins forgiven or we are not, and our sins are still held against us. The Psalmist says that when God forgives our sins, they are forever out of his mind, as far as the east is from the west. While that is hard for us to understand, and even more difficult for us to practice, when God forgives us, our sins are gone forever. By the blood of Jesus our slate is washed completely clean, white as pure snow.

Thank you, Lord God, for your love and your ability to forgive. Thank you for Jesus who died to make this forgiveness possible. Thank you for raising him from the grave so I can have the assurance of my own resurrection. I know that Jesus is the Great Physician and I ask that he heal Dianne (my wife) of her cancer. Give us the wisdom to know how to proceed and to make the right decisions. Help her to feel and to know the peace that only you can give. Increase our faith. Lord, give your healing and your peace to others who are sick and hurting. In Jesus name.
