Daily Devotional: Psalms 21:8-13

Ps 21:8-13

Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes. At the time of your appearing you will make them like a fiery furnace. In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up, and his fire will consume them. You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind. Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed; for you will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow. Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.

Rom 13:1-2, 5

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

God controls the nations. He can put anyone in power and he can remove any he may choose to remove. Governments exist because God has chosen to allow them to do so and they are defeated and vanish at his bidding. This is true of the King or Queen, it is also true for a Prime Minister, President or head of Parliament or Congress. God controls the mayor, governor, and superintendent of education.

This same God sees you and me in our everyday, mundane life as well. He knows what we face, from the major catastrophe to the minor frustrations with our kids or our jobs or the person driving too slowly in front of us. The powerful God who can remove kings can also alter our circumstances to provide our needs and to take away our problems, heartaches, or pain. We may not see his interventions or hear his voice but with thanksgiving, remember, “the Lord is near” all the time.

We all have wished we could just get an answer in words from the Lord when we pray for wisdom. We all want our disease taken away in a moment. We want the abuse to stop or the hungry fed, the lame to walk, the blind to see; and all of this will happen in his time and in his way. He has promised that the curse of sin will be removed and all things will be made new for those who love and trust him.

Heavenly Father, help me look forward to my time of being with you but while I am here on earth, help me live for you every day. Help me keep my mind on the things above and my eyes focused on Jesus my Savior. Give me a pure heart and a servant attitude so that my life is about bringing glory to your name. I do ask for healing, for peace of mind, for the end of abuse, for protection from persecution, for each one you know needs these things. I pray in the name of Jesus.
