Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:1-14

Ps 148:1-14

Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created. He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.

Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and maidens, old men and children.

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.

1 Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

When we consider where and how we live, we have every reason to praise the Lord and to never complain about our lives. If you have been to any of the third world countries, you know firsthand what these people have to live in and the poverty that is so prevalent. Add to this the lack of basic human rights that we take for granted and the corruption that is at almost every level of government as well as in private industry, and we can hardly imagine their lives.

Yet, in the worst of these places and circumstances, there are those who praise the Lord for their lives every day. Some of these are willing to serve God, even when it means they may be beaten or killed if they are caught. They have learned to put their trust in God and not in things. They rely on his goodness to provide them with enough food to eat one meal a day. So, they Praise the Lord!

Lord God, I know that you are in control and that you can alter any circumstance, at any time, and in any place. I also know that you allow me to suffer at times, and in so doing, you have your reasons that work for my good and to your glory. Help me have a servant heart and use me to do your will. Help me become more like you every day. Guard my lips so I will only say that which honors you. Lord, you know every name on my prayer list and I ask you to give your care and your blessings to each one in their special need. I pray in the name of Jesus.
