Daily Devotional: Psalms 146:1-10

Ps 146:1-10

Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them--the LORD, who remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD.

Eph 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.

Each of us should decide this morning that we will spend the rest of our day in praise to the Lord. This does not mean that we will walk around quoting a Psalm or that we will be singing all day. It means that we will be positive in our thoughts and we will do so because we trust the Lord to guide and protect us. We will be filled with his joy because we feel his presence and we know that all is well.

If this is the worst day of your life so far, because of things that are happening to you, you too can rejoice in the Lord because he is near. He knows you, he knows your problem, and he knows how to take care of it. Praise him by helping someone else who has a problem. Give of yourself to help lift the load of another.

Or it may be that God has given you a special friend, one who will listen to you and maybe even hold you as you cry or vent your anger or express your doubts and do so without judging you. Most of us know such a friend, but if you do not have one on earth, you can talk to Jesus. He is your friend and your brother, and he knows exactly what you are feeling and he has promised to listen to you.

O Lord God, help me remember that even though all temptations and problems are common to all mankind, how I handle them is unique to me and what is best for me, may not fit most other people. Help me be comfortable being me, not as I am, but as you want me to be. Give me a positive attitude so I will praise you in all things and rely on you for every need. Thank you for all you have given me, especially for my close friends with whom I can share my feelings. In Jesus name.
