Daily Devotional: Psalms 144:1-4

Ps 144:1-4

Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.

Eph 6:10-13

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Since before the Garden of Eden, there has been a battle going on between the devil and his forces, against God and his hosts. In the Garden, this battle began to take shape on earth as well in the heavenly places. This means that you and I are a part of the battle and in the middle of the war. As far as Satan is concerned, we do not count as individuals nor do our lives. The only thing that counts is scoring points against God and taking away any who would give him their allegiance.

Until Jesus came to live on earth as one of us, this battle raged and it seemed that the devil was winning and was in control. Sin was always rampant. The majority of people yielded to him and to his wicked ways. Between the temptations of sex, greed, and power, he has always allured people to give in as they seek for joy, happiness, and peace. But the devil is the Father of lies. These things do not produce the desired results, but rather, bring all kinds of turmoil and pain.

The good news is that we can be on the winning side. When Jesus came to earth, he overcame the power of Satan in his sin free life. When he died on the cross, it seemed that evil had won but by the resurrection, God obtained the victory for time and eternity. Satan is doomed to hell, along with those who follow him but thanks be to God, we can be more than conquerors in Jesus Christ our Lord!

Hallelujah! Lord God, it is such a joy to know that you have provided me with all I need to win the battle against sin and evil that is so prevalent in this world. I know that you have placed me just where you want me in the panorama of time and in the world of so many nations. So, use me to your glory to carry out the task you want me to fulfill. Help me remember to be patient and kind with everyone. Give me your wisdom to be an agent of peace and unity. In Jesus name.
