Daily Devotional: Psalms 139:7-12

Ps 139:7-12

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

John 1:10-13

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

A small child recently asked me “where is God?” I gave the “standard” answer that he is up in heaven. As I think more about it, should I not have said that God is everywhere. He is in the sky and in the ocean, God is in the woods and in the city, he is in the sky but also in the ground; God is everywhere, ever present.

In our world of finite time and space, it is impossible for us to conceptualize the ever presence of God, in harmony with his being one. But this means that we will never be far from him and no matter what we face, he is close to us. Paul said we are to be anxious for nothing and pray about everything because “the Lord is near”. So, God is all knowing and ever present, he is an awesome God.

We often quote that where there are two or three of the disciples of the Lord, he is in the middle of them. This is true but when we are in bed alone or when we are away from our family or when we gather as a family, he is with us and wants to be a part of our lives. He rides with us to work and he holds our hand as we walk in the park. The greater our faith in him and his presence, the more we come to sense his presence and the more real it becomes to us. The more we seek, the more we will find, and this is also true of God in our lives.

Father and God, most holy and reverend and awesome is your name. I cannot begin to understand you and your glory but I believe you are always with me and I know that I need you every minute of every hour of every day. Guide me and lead me in your path and use me to help others in life. I know that there is no value in knowing your word if I do not live it in my life and also share it with others. Help me use every experience I have had to encourage others and help them want to live for you. Give your healing to those who are sick. I pray in Jesus name.
