Daily Devotional: Psalms 136:16-26

Ps 136:16-26

to him who led his people through the desert, His love endures forever. who struck down great kings, His love endures forever. and killed mighty kings--His love endures forever. Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever. and Og king of Bashan--His love endures forever. and gave their land as an inheritance, His love endures forever. an inheritance to his servant Israel; His love endures forever. to the one who remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever. and freed us from our enemies, His love endures forever. and who gives food to every creature. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Eph 1:4b-8

In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the one he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

It was because of his love and by his grace that God made Israel a great nation and caused them to be his chosen people. It is because of that same love and by that same grace that we are called to be his chosen people in Christ today. Surely his love endures forever and we can live in his peace and joy. Whatever enemy we face in life, our God is greater than any of them. We are his children.

When we face the trials in life (and we all face them), we must turn to God and seek his help. He may choose to remove the obstacle or he may give us what we need to endure and get through it. In Christ, we have the strength to do whatever God chooses for us to accomplish, but in his way and in his time.

One of the greatest strengths he affords to us is the fellowship of fellow saints in Christ. See, they have faced things similar to what we are facing. They want us to be successful and happy. This is why we are encouraged to attend the assemblies of the church but also why we are told to practice hospitality and to talk to each other about our faults and our problems. God loves us and he knows best.

O Lord God, I am so thankful that I can be your child and that you have given me such a large family of brothers and sisters to help me in life. Use me to lift others up in their distress as you use them to lift me when I am down. Fill my heart with your love and your compassion so I will never be judgmental or look down on those who are struggling. Give your healing to those who are sick and give your peace to those who are hurting and feeling down. Be with your people, wherever they are, and strengthen our faith in you. In Jesus name I pray.
