Daily Devotional: Psalms 112:1-10

Ps 112:1-10

Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely, he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor. The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

Matt 5:5-7

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Reading Old Testament history builds faith like nothing else can do. God sent rain and destroyed the world but before he did this, he sent animals of all kinds, in sets of two, to the ark to be saved. Enemy animals existed peacefully while they were on the boat. God provided food and water on a daily basis for over a million people, for forty years. More than once, God confused the enemies of Israel so that their soldiers killed one another; while once sending an angel who killed a hundred and eighty-five thousand in one night. Not only did he part the water of the Red Sea, but he dried the land instantly so the people could walk across it.

This list goes on and on but this is more than enough to prove that God can take care of us and our problems and he can provide every need we have in life. So why do we worry instead of just putting our trust in him? He raises nations and rulers to fulfill his purposes, he controls the weather and the climate. He always provides whatever is needed to carry out his will in our lives. Do not worry about anything, but pray about everything, with thanksgiving to God.

O Lord, my Lord, God and Father of love and mercy, I come to you in confidence and with thanksgiving for all you do for me every day. Your blessings are more than abundant and fill my every need. Open my eyes to see the opportunities you give me to do good and to honor you. Keep me from being selfish. Lord, I ask you to give your peace to those who are hurting and whose hearts are filled with grief and sorrow. Be with those taking treatments also. I pray in Jesus name.
