Daily Devotional: Psalms 110:1-7

Ps 110:1-7

The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies. Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth. The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore, he will lift up his head.

Heb 5:7-10

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Jesus is on our side when we give him our life and we live for him. As Paul said, we no longer live, but we let Christ live in us. He is our High Priest who appears to God on our behalf and makes intercession for us. Jesus is the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for our sin. He is also the High Priest of God who comes to us with his word as well as his compassion. He is qualified to be our High Priest because he actually was one of us, living and dying as a man, in every way, he was flesh.

Because of his resurrection, he is the proof and guarantee that we will be raised from the dead also. We serve a risen Savior, one who not only saves us from sin, but one who holds our hand and walks beside us each day. When life is hard, he is our friend, and in him we can confide, and pour out our hearts. He understands.

He also gives the Holy Spirit to live in us and to give us wisdom to live for him, and strength to carry on when life gets really difficult. For these, and many other reasons, we can rejoice in the Lord always. He is our hope and our joy.

O Lord God, giver of life and sustainer of all good things, I come to you with a humble heart, realizing that in your greatness and in your glory, I am nothing and can never face you on my own merit. Yet, because Jesus is my Savior and is my brother, I can come to you in his name and approach your throne with boldness and confidence that you will hear me and respond to my prayer. Thank you. Use me today to be like you and like Jesus, to show your kindness, your compassion, your love, and your grace to all I meet. In the name of Jesus, I pray.
