Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:23-31

Ps 109:23-31

I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love. Let them know that it is your hand, that you, O LORD, have done it. They may curse, but you will bless; when they attack, they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice. My accusers will be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng I will praise him. For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save his life from those who condemn him.

1 Peter 4:7-10

The end of all things is near. Therefore, be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

This is the perfect day to bring cheer to someone who is hurting or to lift up the hands of someone who is discouraged. A kind word can help that person who is suffering from depression or who just feels overwhelmed. We all appreciate a sincere compliment, so pass one on to somebody. A smile can lift the spirits of that person who is sad or who feels the burden of a difficult life.

Have you ever had a day where it seemed that everything that could go wrong, did so? Yes, we have all had that kind of day. What we need in these cases, is for someone to let us know that they care about us. But what will also lift our spirits is when we share a smile with someone, even when we do not feel like smiling, or when we just say a kind word or hold a door or anything else we can do to help that other person with their day. In fact, we often receive the greater blessing.

Many of you who read this, practice kindness on a regular basis. It is your way of life because you are a kind person. I feel this in your response or when you share it or when you give it a “thumbs up.” Whatever gift we have received from the Lord, we need to faithfully use it to serve others, and to honor his name.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love and your kindness shown to me in so many ways. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to be. Use me to help someone today, someone who is hurting or who is down and out or depressed or who is discouraged. Help me keep a smile on my face as I rejoice in the Lord. You are always near to me, and because of this, I can face anything that comes. Bless your people that we may lead others to Jesus. I pray in his holy name.
