Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:16-22

Ps 109:16-22

For he never thought of doing a kindness but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted. He loved to pronounce a curse--may it come on him; he found no pleasure in blessing--may it be far from him. He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil. May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him. May this be the LORD's payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me. But you, O Sovereign LORD, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

1 Peter 2:21-24

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

Life is not fair! It never been, and it is not going be today either! There are some really bad people in this world and then there are a lot more who are just self-centered and who never think about anyone but themselves. They will break in the line in front of you or they will cut you off on the road, because they are only thinking about themselves, what they want, and what is best for them.

But there are a lot of really good people who care about you and what is best for you and how they can make you happy. We get upset because of the few bad ones and too often ignore the ones who are trying to do right and be good. This is the person who holds the door for you or who stops so you can get out into the flow of traffic, or they simply smile and wish you a good day.

So, which are you and I going to be? It is up to us to decide if we want to help others have a wonderful day or if we want to make their bad day worse. A smile will cost us nothing but is priceless to the person struggling or hurting. So, let’s each give a smile, say a word of kindness and cheer to someone today.

O Lord God, I have everything for which to be grateful and to be happy today. You have blessed me with good health, a loving family, more friends than I even know, and so many material things. But, best of all, you have forgiven my sins in Jesus and have made me your child. As you smile on me, help me smile on others and share the good news of your saving grace in Christ Jesus. Be with our nation, and our leaders, so we can live peaceful lives. I pray in the name of Jesus.
