Daily Devotional: Psalms 103:1-6

Ps 103:1-6

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

Eph 1:3-8

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the one he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

What can a person like me accomplish in life? There are so many others who are much more successful and multitudes who have more material goods. While I consider myself as a fairly intelligent person, I know there are others who are far ahead of me in that department. If my name were published in all of the news outlets in the world, maybe a hundred people would recognize my name.

But when I learn to give up on myself and let God have control, there is no limit to what can be accomplished. When I quit worrying about who gets credit, the sky is the limit as to what can be done. In fact, the more I give up on me, the greater my potential becomes. Whatever God wants done; he can use me for that purpose.

One of the lowest jobs in Bible times was that of a shepherd. Yet, Moses was tending sheep that belonged to his father-in-law when God called him to lead his people out of Egypt, and to give his law, making a nation out of them. David was a shepherd, watching his father’s sheep and was chosen to become the greatest king that ever lived. God can use us for his purpose when we yield to him.

O Lord, what a blessing to belong to you. Help me yield my will to you in a more complete way so that you are truly my life. Help me forget the petty things in life that distract me from your service. Thank you for your blessings in Christ Jesus, so many that I cannot count them. Lord God, please be with those who are taking treatments for cancer and give them your strength and your healing as you know best. Others are facing other diseases and illnesses and I ask your blessings on them as well. Be with their families as well. I pray in the name of Jesus.
