Daily Devotional: Psalms 99:6-9

Ps 99:6-9

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the LORD and he answered them. 7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. 8 O LORD our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. 9 Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.

John 4:13-14

13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

What a blessing to serve a God who loves us and who has promised to take care of us, no matter what we face in life. Paul said that even when we are unfaithful, God is always faithful, just because he is God. The picture of God as our Father is given to show us how much he cares about us and to what extent he will go to protect us and help us when we struggle. He is our loving and holy Father.

Living by faith means that we live with absolute assurance and confidence that we belong to him and that he will always do what is best for us. As a child of God who is living for him and seeking to please him in all things, we know for sure that the blood of Jesus is cleansing us so that there is no condemnation for us.

In Christ, we are free from the law of sin and death. This is the law that Paul states to the Romans, which says that the wages of sin is death. We can have a peace that surpasses the understanding of those in the world because we do not live with a guilty conscience or with a doubt about our eternal destiny. It is sad indeed to see one who belongs to Christ but who is living with any doubt or fear about their salvation. John said he wrote his book so we can know that we are saved.

John gives three conditions for us to know we are saved. We believe in Jesus as the Son of God and based on this belief; we obey his commands. The last one is what Jesus called the greatest command and that is love; we are to love God and love our neighbor. Love requires action and it requires forgiveness.

O Lord God it is such a joy to live each day with the knowledge that I am forgiven and that by your grace I am saved from my sin. I know that I do not deserve to be your child or to have my sins forgiven but I also know that because of your love for me and your great mercy, you have extended your grace to me. Increase my faith so I will always put my trust in you and not worry about the things of this world and all that is happening around me. Sin and crime are rampant, disease is abundant but it is all under your control and limits. I pray in Jesus name.
