Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:7-13

Ps 96:7-13

7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. 9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. 10 Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity. 11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; 12 let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; 13 they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.

1 Peter 1:14-17

14 As obedient children do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

When I got out of bed today, I had to make a choice. I could choose to have a wonderful day or I could complain about my knee that does not want to bend properly, my back that hurts, my headache or just because I was tired. But this is not the first time I have been faced with this dilemma. In fact, almost every day when I get up, I have to make a choice similar to this or just go back to bed.

I know why I have these aches and pains and I also know that if I am alive, I will have them tomorrow. God did not give me (or you) a lifetime warranty on our bodies or even a three-year warranty! Our bodies wear out with use. Like cars or refrigerators, some last longer than others but eventually time takes its toll and we all wear out until finally our breath leaves this flesh and we die.

So today, while I am still breathing, I will have a wonderful day and I will enjoy all of the blessings that God has put in my life. There is nothing so bad that it is not outweighed by the good in my life. This is because the glories of heaven outweigh the evil and pain of this world and one day, I am going to be with the Lord forever.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me a wonderful day today. Thank you for all the other blessings you have given to me. Thank you for my family and the many friends you have put in my life. Give me compassion to hurt with those who are hurting and make me unselfish so I will rejoice with those who are rejoicing. Mold me into your image so I will be known as a person of love and kindness. Give me strength to accomplish what you want me to do today I humbly pray in Jesus name.
