Daily Devotional: Psalms 93:1-5

Ps 93:1-5

1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea--the LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.

Col 1:15-18

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

We all know that the Lord is God and he is over all things. We understand that his Son was a part of creation and that he sustains all thing with the power of his word, even today. We see the proof of this all around us as we watch the storms that come through or we see the ocean waves or we look into the sky at night and see the countless number of stars. He holds it all in his mighty hand.

It is easy for us to believe all of this, especially if we were taught these things since infancy. But do we really believe that God knows my name and he sees the things I face each day? Are we really convinced that Jesus is near to us and is our big brother who loves us and is protecting us? It is for these reasons that we can actually not worry about tomorrow and we can live in uncertain times and do so without fear of what might happen. We can live without any doubt or anxiety.

As a father and as a big brother, I can relate to the love and concern of God and of Jesus for us. So many times I watched my son from a distance, without him ever knowing I was there, making sure he was safe and nothing would harm him. As a big brother, I watched out for my siblings with love (and some fightingJ). So we are always in his care and being protected by our Lord.

O Lord, it is so good to be your child and to know that you actually know me, my name and even what I am facing today. It is so easy for me to forget that you are there and for me to fret or to be overcome with anxiety or fear. Help me show my love for you by doing your will in all things. Give me wisdom to show your love to others around me and help me guard my mouth to only say things that will build them up and never tear down or discourage. I pray in the name of Jesus.
