Daily Devotional: Psalms 91:9-16

Ps 91:9-16

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling--even the LORD, who is my refuge--10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Eph 6:1-3

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"-which is the first commandment with a promise- 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

God alone determines what is right and what is wrong. He is the one who calls a thing sin and it is sin. When we abhor sin and we seek to live for the Lord because it is the right thing to do, he acknowledges us and protects us. Paul says that God will work all things together for good to those who love the Lord and are called by him. Jesus said that he would confess before the Father those who confess him on earth. We must decide every day whom we will serve – God or self.

When life gets hard, when our faith gets weak, when we begin to doubt or when we just want to give up on trying to do what is right, we can turn to the Lord and he will take our hand and lift us up. He will hold us when we need consoling and he will walk with us when we need a friend. Jesus is always ready to listen to us and to hear our cry or hear our rejoicing. What a friend we have in Jesus!

So we sing praises to God and we give thanks to him for all his goodness toward us and his protection shown to us every day. We put our trust in him because we know that he is faithful, even when we do not see his working in our lives. His Spirit lives in us and sustains us in the worst moments and gives us wisdom when we make difficult choices. What a blessing to be a child of the living God!

O Lord God I am so thankful for all you give me every day. I thank you for the very air I breathe and for the sunshine and for the rain. Thank you for allowing me to be born in this nation and in this time period where I can enjoy so many freedoms and so much technology. Help me use all of these things and others to your glory and to reach out to others to lead them to you. Be with the leaders of our nation that we may live quiet and peaceful lives. Give strength and hope to those who are struggling. Give healing to the sick. I pray in the name of Jesus.
