Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:30-37

Ps 89:30-37

30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness--and I will not lie to David--36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah

2 Tim 2:11-13

11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

If the earth is still standing in eight hundred and forty-two years, we can predict the exact time that the sun will rise on any given day of the year, at any given place. There is nothing that is more predictable than the rising and the setting of the sun. This is because God set it in place and decreed it to be this way.

Just as this is true, so the faithfulness of God is sure. It does not matter what we may do or what all of mankind may do, God is faithful to his word. While we need to be good stewards of what God has given to us, we will not destroy the earth because God has said that is his to determine and to do. When God speaks, it may be something that will happen in a thousand years but it is as sure when spoken as when it comes to pass in the years determined by him. God is faithful.

This is a two-edged sword; one that protects and one that destroys. The care and protection of God for his people is promised and is as sure as the rising and setting of the sun. He will never forsake his own. No matter what we face in this life, God will give us strength to endure. He gives his peace and comfort to those who are broken. But just as sure as his love, is his wrath on those who reject him and who reject Jesus as his Son. The word of God cannot be broken.

Heavenly Father, giver of life and creator of all things, I am humbled that I can talk to you today and know that you will listen and respond to me. As one of so many people who have lived on the earth, it is truly awesome that you know who I am and you know what I face each day. Thank you for caring about me and for loving me enough to make it possible for me to live with you in eternity. Please give your strength to those who are struggling and use me to help them. Give your peace and joy to those who are hurting and grieving. In Jesus name I pray.
