Daily Devotional: Psalms 84:8-12

Ps 84:8-12

8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Selah 9 Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

2 Thess 1:11-12

11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

True peace comes from within us. More often than not, when we are quick to become angry with others, it is because we are not happy with ourselves. When we see the faults of others it may be because we are trying to overlook our own faults and shortcomings. Too often, the source of our problems is that we are living with a guilty conscience and trying to hide it from God and ourselves.

So, to be at peace with self, we must first be at peace with God. This can come one of two ways. We can know the will of God perfectly and then keep it in all we do and say and thus, we will be at peace with him. The problem with this is that none of us has perfect knowledge and understanding of the Word nor do we keep all we know perfectly. We all fail to live up to the standard of God and his glory.

The other way (actually the only way) to be in harmony with God is that we have our sins forgiven by him and thus, we are counted as flawless before him. This is only done when we demonstrate our trust in hm and in Jesus as our Savior by turning from our sin and then being buried with Christ in baptism and raised with him to walk a new life. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and walk in his light because his blood continues to wash our sins away.

Thank you, heavenly Father, for the peace of mind that surpasses understanding that you have given to me in Jesus Christ. It is such a joy to be able to know that my sins are forgiven and I am at peace with you. Thank you for your love that prompts your grace to me. Fill me with your Spirit so I will overflow with your love and show Jesus to others in my life. Help me remember to be kind to everyone in all circumstances and to treat others as I want to be treated. Open my eyes to the opportunities to serve you by serving others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
