Daily Devotional: Psalms 83:1-8

Ps 83:1-8

1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. 2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. 4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you--6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, 7 Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. 8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. 2 Cor 12:7-9

7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

The enemies of God and of his people are always astir. There are all kinds of evil and wickedness that are being accepted as “normal” in our society and are being legalized by the governments of the world. As this happens, there is less and less tolerance of anyone who will speak up for God and for his truth. Sports figures who acknowledge Jesus as Lord are ridiculed and anyone who dares speak against sin is made fun of or is accused of being filled with hate and called evil.

What can we, as the people of God, do about this? We can pray. This is the most powerful weapon we have against evil because it shows our faith and it calls God into action. Secondly, we must teach our children that God is the only true source of authority and he alone is the author of morality. The morality taught by God is absolute, so that sin is sin and right is right, no matter the circumstance. The only thing our children have to shield them from Satan is their faith and that will only come by our teaching them the Word of God. It must be taught so they actually believe it themselves, and not just a lot of “rules” of Christianity or church.

O LORD God protect us and protect our children from the deceit of the devil and from those who would say that evil is good and good is evil. Give us as parents and as grandparents wisdom to teach our young ones to put their trust in you and to always know that your word is truth. Give us wisdom to understand what we study so that we will know how to live for you and thus, show others Jesus. I ask you to be with the leaders of our nation that they will recognize you as God. Bless those who are hurting and the forgotten of our land. I pray in Jesus name.
