Daily Devotional: Psalms 78:56-64

Ps 78:56-64

56 But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes. 57 Like their fathers they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow. 58 They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols. 59 When God heard them, he was very angry; he rejected Israel completely. 60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among men. 61 He sent the ark of his might into captivity, his splendor into the hands of the enemy. 62 He gave his people over to the sword; he was very angry with his inheritance. 63 Fire consumed their young men, and their maidens had no wedding songs; 64 their priests were put to the sword, and their widows could not weep.

Heb 3:16-19

16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

What a shame! The very people who went through the ten plagues in Egypt and who crossed the Red Sea on dry land and who saw the army of Pharoah destroyed when the waters came rushing down, were the same ones who died because of their lack of faith. In their disbelief they disobeyed God and grumbled about their plight in the wilderness, thinking he could not take care of them.

What a shame! Today, the very people who have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus so often fail to accept his forgiveness and live their lives with guilt and all kinds of doubt in their hearts. Too often it is the same ones who disobey God and fail to trust him to take care of us and provide our needs today. There should never be a Christian who is worried our who is living in doubt.

We have seen the power and the glory of God. We see it every day in what we call “nature” and we all have seen in it our lives as we face trials and he delivers us from them and provides just what we need in just the right moment. We are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ who saved us and who walks with us.

O Lord God I am so thankful for all you have done for me in more ways than I have ever known and what you continue to do for me every day. So many times in my life, the situation seemed hopeless but just at the right moment the solution came from you to deliver me. Thank you for the many friends you have used in my life to encourage me and to comfort me and also to reprimand me when I needed it. Help me never doubt, fear, or worry. I pray in Jesus name.
