Daily Devotional: Psalms 75:1-5

Ps 75:1-5

1 We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds. 2 You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge uprightly. 3 When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. Selah 4 To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns. 5 Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak with outstretched neck.'"

Eph 5:19-20

19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What a blessing to live in a land that celebrates a day of Thanksgiving to our God for all the things he has done! We live in a nation that has laws founded upon the principles of the word of God. Our nation was begun so we could have religious freedom and serve the Lord as we understand from the Bible is pleasing to him, without any interference from the government. So we thank you Lord!

With our laws based upon the basic personal liberties and freedoms, we have the ability to be mobile and to travel as we desire. We have opportunities to better ourselves with education and training, with plenty of work available to almost anyone who is willing to do so. This has allowed many of us to enjoy economic prosperity and to live in abundance. For this we are thankful to our God!

We have the ability to know our families and to feel the love that comes from being able to see them on occasions. My immediate family is spread (at the moment) from Florida to Californian and between, with one brother in Africa but we still manage to get almost all of us together every couple of years. It is a blessing indeed to be with our adult siblings and their families and to feel the connection of closeness. We thank you God for giving us our families to love.

But wherever we go, we can find people who love the Lord and people who are seeking to serve him. We are blessed beyond measure with our spiritual family in Jesus Christ! Often, we find connections of people we know with those we have just met, but always we find connections of people who know Jesus.

Our Father who is in heaven, holy and reverend is your name above all the earth. It is with deep humility that I come to you today to give thanks for our wonderful nation and for all the freedoms and opportunities you have given to us. I thank you for my family, both physical and spiritual and for the joy and the support this gives me. But most of all, I thank you for your love and for Jesus who died for my sins so I can live with assurance of being with you in heaven. In his name.
