Daily Devotional: Psalms 47:1-9

Ps 47:1-9

1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. 2 How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth! 3 He subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet. 4 He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. Selah 5 God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets. 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. 8 God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. 9 The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.

Gal 3:6-9

6 Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." 7 Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. 8 The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." 9 So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Several years ago there was a song recorded by several different artists entitled: “I did it my way” that suggested at the end of their life they could look back and say they had done what they wanted to do. Have you lived your life your way or are you living it for God? Jesus prayed that the will of the Father be done in his life and not that of his own. To live for another means giving up self.

Paul said he had been crucified with Christ so that he no longer lived but Christ lived in him. Abraham, a wealthy and successful man in his day, gave up his own personal plans and lived for God. Even though it meant leaving his homeland and his family, he went where God told him to go. With enough money to buy any piece of property he desired, he lived in a tent and moved around as a nomad or a wanderer because God told him to do so. Are we children of Abraham?

We are called by the gospel to live by faith and follow the will of God. In doing this we will be blessed along with Abraham, both now in this world and then when this life is over, we will have an eternal home with God. God is greatly exalted.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful to be your child. Help me be more devoted to you and submit to your will instead of doing things my way. Give me your wisdom along with a pure heart and a meek spirit. Use me where you want me to be used and in the way that will bring honor to your name. Help me show others the love of Jesus in my heart, especially those with whom I have disagreements. Be with your people, especially those who are being persecuted. In Jesus name.
