Daily Devotional: Psalms 45:6-12

Ps 45:6-12

6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. 7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. 8 All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. 9 Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. 10 Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father's house. 11 The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. 12 The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.

Eph 5:31-33

31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."   32 This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

The bride of Christ is his church, his kingdom. He loves his own just as a devoted husband loves his bride. Just as Christ gave himself to save his people, so the husband is to give himself for the good of his wife. Jesus said that he and the Father are one and then he prayed that we become one with him and thus, with each other. Our devotion is to him and our goal is to be like him.

There is nothing that shows the glory of God and his grace to others more than when we show love and compassion to those around us. This is why Paul said we are to rid ourselves of all bitterness, brawling, anger and clamor. He then said we are to replace these with love, compassion and forgiveness. While we are saved by grace, we are to practice good works to show Christ living in us. Jesus said that others will see these good deeds and will glorify the Father. When asked what good work we should do, Jesus replied that we are to believe. The greatest work in our lives and the one that speaks most loudly is genuine trust in God and in his word. This trust shows we are one with him and he is first in our lives.

Heavenly Father I am so glad that you have provided a way for me to belong to you and to be a part of your family. When my life is flooded with problems or when everything is going great, I need the power of your Spirit to truly trust you in all things. Help me yield to your will so I can stand in the strength of your might and win the daily battles against Satan. Thank you for the promise of eternal life which floods my soul with joy and your peace, even when my heart is broken or my body is in pain. Use me to help others in your will, In Jesus name.
