Daily Devotional: Psalms 38:9-16

Ps 38:9-16

9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."

Rev 6:10-11

10 They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.

What are you facing today? Most of us have some issue, some problem, some trial, some decision to make or something that can destroy our peace. Paul said we are to pray about everything and worry about nothing. And the reason he gives for saying this is because the Lord is near. No matter where we are and no matter what we face, he is near to us and he knows all about what we face.

The passage from Revelation tells us that we may have to wait on the Lord to get a response to our prayer. His time and our time are not always the same. The wonderful thing about learning to wait is that God knows best and often in our waiting, we receive blessings beyond our imagination. We may not understand what is going on in our lives but faith is seeing the unseen with assurance that God is in control and all will work out for our good and to his glory.

What a blessing to be able to lean on the everlasting arms of Jesus. Just as John reclined on his breast, so we can find peace and comfort as we lean on him by faith today. “O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not take it to the Lord in prayer.” Pray always about everything.

O Lord God, my heavenly Father I am so thankful that I can talk to you any time I need to share my burdens or just my thoughts about what is going on in my life. Fill me with your peace and your joy all day as I seek to honor you with all I do and all I say. You have blessed me so much by allowing me to live in a place with so many freedoms. Please give your strength and protection to your people who live in places that do not have these privileges. I pray in the name of Jesus.
