Daily Devotional: Psalms 35:19-28

Ps 35:19-28

19 Let not those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye. 20 They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land. 21 They gape at me and say, "Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it." 22 O LORD, you have seen this; be not silent. Do not be far from me, O Lord. 23 Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord. 24 Vindicate me in your righteousness, O LORD my God; do not let them gloat over me. 25 Do not let them think, "Aha, just what we wanted!" or say, "We have swallowed him up." 26 May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. 27 May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, "The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant." 28 My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long.

Jer 17:7-8

7 "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

God knows our innermost thoughts. He knows what is troubling us today and why we said what we said. He understands our anxieties as well as the reason for our joy. We cannot hide our motives from God and he does not fail to see when our intentions are good, but we fail in our actions. When we put our trust in the Lord, we never need worry because he will work all things for our good.

This means we are never alone in this big world. He will be with us and hold our hand when the way seems dark and our path is obscure. He gives us wisdom to live for him and to make the right decisions. He guides our steps and will keep us from falling over the trials of life. But when we do falter and we do fall, he will be with us and he will pick us up and help us get going again. He never leaves us.

O Lord God I am thankful for all the material things you have given to me to enjoy in this life. Thank you for the many Christian friends who encourage me and who help me in so many ways. Thank you for the opportunities to teach your word and to help others serve you. Thank you for the peace you instill in my heart and the joy found in serving you. I am thankful that you allowed me to live in this great nation and for all those who have fought to give us our freedoms. Be with our leaders and give them wisdom for us to live in peace. In Jesus name.
