Daily Devotional: Psalms 35:1-10

Ps 35:1-10

1 Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. 2 Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid. 3 Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." 4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. 5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away; 6 may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. 7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, 8 may ruin overtake them by surprise--may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. 9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation. 10 My whole being will exclaim, "Who is like you, O LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them."

Matt 5:3

3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

God cares about his own and he will take care of all who put their trust in him. He will never turn his back on us or our troubles but in his time and in his way will give relief to our suffering. But we must wait on him, which can be the greatest challenge to our faith. When our trouble persists and we see no help in sight, we may begin to think that he does not hear our cry or that he does not care.

“O yes he cares, I know he cares. His heart is filled with my grief.” Whatever we face in life, our God sees and knows what we are going through. Jesus, who is our friend and our brother, has already been tempted in the same way and he has endured. This means he understands how we feel and he knows how badly we hurt and how easy it would be for us to give up or give in.

But who is like the Lord? There is none too strong to defeat us. He can give riches to the most poor and provide for the needy. But in Christ we are all rich, with the wealth that really matters and that endures. In him we have all spiritual blessings and the promise that he will never leave us nor will he forsake us. Hallelujah!

O Lord God, I just want to thank you for all you do for me every day. There are so many times and so many ways that you have protected me from my foolishness or from my selfish ways. You have guided the decisions in my life when I did not know which way to go or what to do. I know that every phase of my life has its own weaknesses and challenges but also has it strengths and opportunities. Use me in your way in your time to help others and in so doing, to honor you. Open my eyes to every opportunity you give me. I humbly pray in Jesus name.
