Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:8-14

Ps 145:8-14

8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. 9 The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. 10 All you have made will praise you, O LORD; your saints will extol you. 11 They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, 12 so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. 14 The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

Rom 8:1-2, 37-39

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (37-39) 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God wants us to do what is right, in all things and in every way. He wants us to think and act like him. But he knows that we have and do fail in this. Because he is gracious and compassionate, he wants us to be forgiven and restored in our fellowship with him. No matter what happens, his love for us is sure. While all were still dead in sin, Christ came to earth and died for ungodly mankind.

When we seek to be like Jesus and the Father, we will seek to be at peace with everyone. We will look for the best in others and not try to condemn them or pass judgment on them. We realize that their relationship with God is based on their being forgiven for what they have done wrong, but then, so is ours. No matter how spiritually mature we consider ourselves or how much we feel we are trying to live right, our only hope with God is forgiveness and not our own righteousness. In his forgiveness we find assurance. Even though our sin deserves death, we live because we are in Christ and we are continually being forgiven of our sin.

Heavenly Father it is such a blessing to be able to rest at night with a clear conscience. Clear, not because I have not failed you or done anything wrong but because I know you have forgiven me. Give me a stronger resolve each day to do your will and stronger faith to depend on you and your way for me. As I grow up in Christ, give me more self-control. But in all this, give me love and compassion toward others so I will be patient and forgiving with them. Be merciful to your church and help us show your love to the world. I pray in Jesus name.
