Daily Devotional: Psalms 128:1-6

Ps 128:1-6

1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. 5 May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, 6 and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

Eph 5:15-18

15 Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

What a joy to be a child of God and to know that he is with us and protecting us in all we face each day. What a blessing to know our sins are forgiven in Christ and to go to bed each night with an assurance that we are held in his arms. As the world around us lives in fear and many panic due to the uncertainties and all the uproar over the political situations and the health issues, we can rest securely in the knowledge that God is in control and will work all things for good for us.

As the spiritual Israel, we pray for peace upon us as well. We have been given a peace in Jesus Christ that the world cannot comprehend. Even in the midst of a pandemic or should we face persecutions, we can live in peace. We have peace that transcends our circumstances because this world is not our home. As we live in peace and with joy, we glorify God and shine forth his light to those who are lost in sin. We show the world that God knows best and peace is in Jesus.

The world sees death as the ultimate evil that we all face. But for the child of God, death is simply a transition from this wicked and painful world to a new world that is all peace and joy. While we love our families here on earth and we all have a little fear of the unknown, we can still look forward to the day that we go to be with our Lord. Paul says that the worst that can happen to us now does not begin to compare to the glory that we will enjoy in that eternal home.

Heavenly Father I am thankful for your constant care and the peace that I have in Jesus Christ. Thank you for the freedom of living for you. Give me greater faith and more determination to let your Spirit work in me. Help me use today in a way that will honor you and glorify your name. As I consider your majesty, I stand in awe and know that on my own I do not deserve to come before you or even speak a word to you. Yet, in Jesus I can come to you in boldness because you count me righteous in him. So it is in his name I come to you today.
