Daily Devotional: Psalms 121:1-8

Ps 121:1-8

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip--he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you--the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm--he will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Titus 3:4-7

4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

We are living in some uncertain times. We are faced with challenges that have not been seen by this generation. The word “normal” has become a myth, with no real meaning to most of us. In addition to the health issues which have had an effect on all of us in so many ways, we have seen unprecedented social unrest in our country with political fighting at an all time high. How do we cope?

While there has been widespread changes in the way we meet to worship God and many churches have resorted to only meeting online, we have not seen any targeted persecution toward God’s people. The internet does not pose nearly as much intimidation as does in-person contacts. This gives us added opportunities to invite friends and outsiders to our worship services and Bible classes, where they can join us in the privacy of their homes and at their own convenience.

We also have an opportunity to teach others by our example of faith as we put our trust in God to take care of us. We can confidently pray about all things as we worry about nothing. God is in control and he will watch over our lives and he will work all things for good to those who love him and are called by him.

Heavenly Father I give you thanks for the United States of America and for the many freedoms I enjoy every day. Thank you for the opportunities I have as a citizen of this great nation. While our country was founded upon the principles of your word, we, as a nation, have allowed this world to take away the respect and honor you deserve. Please be merciful to us and give our leaders the desire to look to you for wisdom. Protect us from those who would harm us. Even more, be with your people that we will trust you in everything. I pray in Jesus name.
