Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:105-112

Ps 119:105-112      Nun

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

John 12:44-46

44 Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

There is nothing that takes away the fear of darkness more than a ray of light, no matter how far away it may be. When we are surrounded by darkness, we cannot help but wonder what may be lurking in the blackness around us. Our minds begin to wonder and play tricks on us. We hear sounds or we seem to see some kind of motion and then begin to think of all kinds of bad things.

One morning, while walking before daylight, I heard a noise in the bushes near the road. It was obviously some kind of animal and my blood pressure went up as my imagination peaked. I have never seen a bear in this part of the country but I have heard stories of others who say they have sighted them. But even a coyote would be bad enough, and especially if it were a pack of them. So I shined my flashlight and then I saw it as it came out of the bushes. It was a rabbit.

I trust God to take care of me. I also had a pistol in my pocket. But my heart raced and my mind was filled momentarily with fear – all for no reason. So it is in life, we will have these moments but we need to realize that God is in control and he will take care of us, no matter what we face. But more often than not, our fears turn out to be some kind of ferocious rabbit or opossum!

Heavenly Father it is so wonderful to be able to trust you and to know that you will always take care of me. It is a blessing to understand you are more powerful than any virus and that you can control all of the nations, even our own. It is you who allows each leader to have their moments of power, even when I do not understand why. Give me a pure heart and a determined commitment to be more like Jesus every day in every thought and action. Be with those who are being persecuted for their faith in you and in Jesus Christ. I pray in his name.
