Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:73-80

Ps 119:73-80           Yodh

73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. 74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word. 75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. 76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. 77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. 78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts. 79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes. 80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.

2 Peter 3:18

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they might grow in understanding of the word and ways of God. The more knowledge we have of God and Jesus Christ, the more we will grow in grace. We cannot apply what we do not know or what we do not understand. So it is necessary for us to study the word of God and pray that the Spirit will give us wisdom to use it in our lives. This will bring us closer to God.

But we must learn to love the word of God. It should be a joy to study it and to learn the precepts that are contained therein. As with any subject, the more we learn the more we can find joy in learning more. Reading the word is where we begin but it must go much deeper than just casual reading. We learn small truths and then as we progress, we learn to put these together to understand the more profound and deeper truth. Each time “the light comes on”, we are growing.

We then can rejoice in the Lord always because we know we can trust him in every part of our lives. Not matter what we face in life, the Lord is aware and near us. Jesus has been where we are and he has overcome. Now, he promises to be with us as a friend, a brother, and as an intercessor on our behalf. Nothing can take away our depression or anxiety more than knowing the love of God. He is faithful and will never leave us or forsake us. Praise the name of Jesus!

Heavenly Father it is with joy and thanksgiving that I come to you, knowing that you will hear me and that you are aware of all my weaknesses and my trials but also aware of my strengths and my accomplishments. I realize that all I am is by your grace and all I know is because you have revealed it to me and given me the ability to understand. Give me wisdom to better apply your word in my life so I will be more like Jesus and set the right example for others to follow. Lord be with our nation that we may live in peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
