Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:57-64

Ps 119:57-64           Heth

57 You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey your words. 58 I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. 59 I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. 60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. 61 Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. 62 At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws. 63 I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. 64 The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees.

John 14:15-18

15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

How important is truth to you? We all want others to speak the truth. We want to be around people who are honest in their relationships and not pretentious. We depend on information being true when we make decisions. We expect the truth from others and most of us hate to be lied to or be deceived.

We live in a world and a time when much of what we hear is false. We are often lied to by the news media, by politicians, by social media, by celebrities and by sports figures. Of course it is not called lying but is labeled as disinformation or fake news. If it is not truth, it is a lie. If it is intended to deceive, it is a lie. The source of all lies is the devil. He is the Father of lies and the great deceiver.

Jesus came to earth and is the embodiment of truth. He declared himself to be truth and the source of all truth. Everything we read in the Bible is true because it is the word of God that reveals him to mankind. The purpose of his revelation is to give us all we need to be like him in our lives here on earth and to be prepared to live with him in eternity. We can always depend on God and on his word. There is never any deception or hidden agenda. He loves us and wants the best for us.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to know that you do love me and that your word is the source of truth for my life. Help me to be honest in every way and everything I say or do. Use me to spread your truth, the truth about your love for all mankind and about Jesus. Be with our nation and our leaders that we can live in peace with each other. Give your healing to those who are sick and your peace to those who are troubled. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Help me be more like Jesus every day. I humbly pray in his holy name.
